Men's League is wrapped up for another year.

Winners of the Championship Flight in the Stroke Play Tournament were Matt Reimers, Dale Styskal, and Pat Vlasin. Second Place went to Zach Harris, Troy Kemling and Trent Patrick.

In the First Flight, the champs were Alan Haenfler, JJ Long and John Long. Kasey Kroeker, Chase Sauder and Randy Styskal took second.

The Second Flight was won by Craig Clough, Larry Bieker and Chris Schrotberger on a scorecard playoff. In second were Ray Burkland, Tim Meyer and Tim Pofahl.

Jim Armbruster, Jim Kemling and Merle Poppe won the Third Flight, finishing ahead of Gerald Geisert, Brent Thelander and John Woodmancy in second.

Congrats to the 2010 Points Champions!

Winning the Championship Flight were Jerod Burge, David Engel & Bryan Sestak. The Runners-up were Ray Burkland, Tim Meyer and Tim Pofahl.

Champions of the First Flight were Alan Haenfler, JJ Long and John Long. Second place went to Brad Hays, Kevin Poppe and Shawn Turner.

The Second Flight was won by Craig Clough, Larry Bieker and Chris Schrotberger. Tied for second were Zach Harris, Troy Kemling and Trent Patrick along with Tyson McGreer, Ryan Potts and Brent Turner.

Steve Gaston, Mike Skeels and Jay Wall won the John Mathis Memorial Flight. Finishing second were Gerald Geisert, Brent Thelander and John Woodmancy.

The Men's League Page has been updated with scores and final Points standings.

The page also has the flights and August 19th matchups for the two-week Stroke Play tournament. Flights were determined by average score for the year and handicaps assigned based on score difference from the flight leader. We will play this week and next week (Aug. 26th) and the teams with the lowest combined scores after adjusting for the handicap will win the flights.

The Final Pairings for the Points Championship are set. The matches will be played on August 12th.

In the Championship Flight, it will be Ray Burkland, Tim Meyer, and Tim Pofahl versus Jerod Burge, Dave Engel, and Bryan Sestak.

The First Flight (the All-In-The-Family Flight) has a three-way tie between the teams of Gengenbach, Swan, & Swan, Haenfler, Long, & Long, and Pelster, Turner, & Turner. Pelster, Turner, & Turner beat the other two teams in the regular season so they have the tie-breaker.

The Second Flight will feature Craig Clough, Larry Bieker, and Chris Schrotberger against Matt Reimers, Dale Styskal, and Pat Vlasin.

The Third Flight will be Steve Gaston, Mike Skeels, and Jay Wall versus Don Johnson, Ken Kohmetscher, and Dan Zwickl.

There will be two more weeks of play for points then the league will be flighted based on total points. The last two weeks of the regular season (Aug. 5th & 12th) will be played within your flight for the Points Championship. There will be a two week tournament to end the year (Aug. 19th & 26th) with flights based on average scores for the year.

The next Steak Night will be July 22nd. There will not be league play on July 29th for the Perkins County Fair.

Teams have been seeded into three flights based on their scoring average for the entire year. Pairings will be made with teams in the same flight but you will no longer be competing head-to-head. Pairings for Round 2 will be based on scores from Round 1. Strokes allowed are for the entire 18-hole tournament.

There will be hole prizes for both nights of the tournament. You must sign up in the clubhouse and pay $1 per person each night before you play. There will be three hole prizes and the pot will be split between the three winners. Only move the flag prize if you have signed up and paid.

Remember: You must post two scores by next Thursday (August 27th). Results will be final that night and we will finish the year with the last Steak Night!

Congrats to John Carnes, Josh Clark and Dennis Hutt for being the Men's League Points Champions for 2009! Their tie in Week 12 was just enough to hold off Alan Haenfler, JJ Long, and John Long who finished a close second. Dave Davies, Karl Lake and Brett Melchret needed one more win to imporove on thier third-place finish.

Only one week left in the regular season. The team of Carnes, Clark, and Hutt have wrapped up at least tie for 2nd place if they show up. A win would make them the champs. If they lose, Davies, Lake, and Melchret can win the title with a win. If both loose, Haenfler, Long and Long as well as Armbruster, Kemling and Poppe could get into a first-place tie.

I have entered most of the email addresses we received at the sign-up last week but if you would like to be added to the list, let me know.

A couple notes for this season:
- The first Steak Night is scheduled for June 4. There will be FOUR Steak Nights this year.
- Due to the high number of teams, we will be playing old hole #8 as hole 2A this year. Hopefully this will spread everyone out and let you play a little more instead of waiting.
- There is still a need for an extra player to fill out a couple teams so if you know someone who is interested in playing, let me know.

Matchups for week two pit the top two teams in each flight against each other and down the list from there.

Championship Flight Pairings for Week 2: 15-22, 13-14, 9-20, 4-17. (Team 17 has already posted their score for Week 2 so the pairings start with the 2nd and 3rd place teams.)

First Flight Pairings: 19-18, 8-3, 23-16, 2-21.

Second Flight Pairings: 1-11, 6-10, 5-12, 7 alone.

Reminders: Scores must be posted by Aug. 28. If you can't be there, play early and report your score. STEAK NIGHT is Aug. 28.

All scores for the season have been updated. Congratulations to Calvin Dahlkoetter, Jesse Koop, and Dennis Miyamoto on winning the Points Championship for the year.

The Tournament will be divided into three flights based on the average scores for the season and played over the next two weeks. Teams will be matched up to play together with another team in their Flight but the scores will be totalled over the two weeks and adjusted for their handicap (you don't "win" or "lose" against the team you're paired with).

The Championship Flight consists of teams whose average score for the year is either 34 (teams 9, 13, and 22) or 35 (4, 14, 15, 17, and 20). Teams 4, 14, 15, 17, and 20 will get two strokes for the two weeks combined. Pairings for the first night (Aug. 21) are 4-9, 13-22, 14-20, and 15-17.

The First Flight consists of teams whose average score is either 36 (teams 2, 3, 16, 18, 21, and 23) or 37 (8 and 19). Teams 8 and 19 will get two strokes for the two weeks combined. Pairings for the first week are 2-3, 8-19, 16-21, and 18-23.

The Second Flight has teams 1, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11 and 12. Their average scores are as follows: Team 7-38, 5 and 6-39, 10-40, 1, 11, and 12-41. Team 7 sets the handicap for the Second Flight at 38. Teams 5 and 6 will get 2 strokes, team 10 will get four strokes and teams 1, 11 and 12 will get 6 strokes for the two weeks combined. First week pairings are 1-11, 5-10, 6-7, and team 12 alone.

All teams must record two seperate scores in the next two weeks. All scores will be final on August 28. If you are not able to play that night, you need to play ahead of time.

August 28 is STEAK NIGHT. Everyone should come eat even if you have already played or the weather is bad.

Grant Golf Board
Regular Meeting
June 25, 2008

The regular meeting of the Grant Golf Board was called to order by President Kevin Poppe at 8pm. Attending were board members: Jim Kemling, Tim Meyer, and Jarod Burge. Also in attendance was Course Superintendent, Shawn Stutzman. Two other board members, Jorje Geisert, and Ryan Richmond, arrived at 8:10 pm and 8:30 pm respectively. The meeting was held at the Grant Golf Course Club House.

Business Conducted:

• The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed.

• Jim presented the Monthly Financial Report See Attached.

• Shawn presented the Superintendent’s Report. See Attached.
Comments/Discussion of Report:
The board directed Shawn to obtain an estimate amount
that would be needed to repair the second mower. If
reasonable, the board would like this mower repaired.

It was decided to let the pond dry up and try to retrieve
donated material for the liner. It is hoped that this
can be done this weekend.

Yardage measurements will be done so work on a
reconfiguration of the red tees, to include another
par three and par five, can be considered. Also,
lengthening the blue tee box on #6 is being
discussed.

Shawn also mentioned that he will try to email the
board updates regarding repairs, sprinkler issues, watering,
mowing, etc so the board has the necessary information
to respond to the membership’s concerns.

• Jarod reported on the Men’s League. There are 23 teams playing, including the high school team. This fall the board will review the policy of young men playing in the league. Jarod mentioned that the on-line scoring is very helpful and organized. Another issue for review this fall will be the possibility of restricting the number of teams in the league, or other options, such as playing more than one night a week or using a bye week system. Any ideas would be welcomed.

• Tim gave a report from the tournament committee. He would like to find a different date for the Benchwarmer’s Tournament for next year to allow for a greater number of entrants. The couples’ tournament that was held on June 22, 2008 was very successful, with 15 teams (60 people) playing. Regarding the Club Championship Tournament that is scheduled for July 20th, Ryan ( the tournament director) asked for input about making this an open tournament to attract more people. The board agreed that Ryan can pursue any format he feels will work.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

• The Schmitt stall, which is prepaid until 2012, is being occupied. The family will leave their cart in this stall.

• At this time, the cart path construction on #8 will temporarily cease, and the forms pulled up and the ground leveled and everything cleaned up. When more funds become available, the project will continue in the fall.

• The Family Driving Range Yearly Pass will be tabled until next spring.

• The Chamber After Five held at the Grant Golf Course on May 16, 2008 was well attended and enjoyed by all. Kevin submitted an invoice to Great Plains for their portion of the sponsorship. Payment is expected shortly.

• According to Shawn, there is an adequate supply of scorecards to last through this season. This will allow the board to finalize plans for changing yardages, contacting the advertisers, and researching different styles of cards that scores the entire 18 on one line without folding the card back.

• The lean-to portion of the clubhouse was painted to match the rest of the inside by Connie. It looks very nice and clean.

• It has been suggested that the east side roof of the club house could be inexpensively done with steel roofing. This project and discussion will remain as “in consideration” as the board deliberates repair or rebuild of the clubhouse.

• New clubhouse update:

Jim, Tim, and Jarod will form a Finance Committee to explore funding options.
Ryan, Kevin, Jorje, and Shawn will form a Structure Committee to investigate floor plans, cost, etc. Both committees will meet in a special meeting to be held July 16, 2008 at 8pm at the Clubhouse. City Superintendent, Tyson McGreer will also be invited to attend.

NEW BUSINESS:

• Ryan made all the necessary arrangements for on-line banking for the Golf Course Account. He presented all the passwords and user ids to Jim.

• Ryan made a motion to allow pro-rating of membership dues one time only to a new member that would be joining sometime after the spring membership deadline. The dues would be divided by seven ( the number of golfing months) and November would be considered the last month. The discussion that followed indicated that this would possibly attract new members that move to Grant later in the summer. Jarod seconded this motion and the membership approved by voting aye.

• Kevin reviewed the results of the online survey that was sent to existing and previous board members. There was good feed back from this survey. The board and superintendent will follow up on areas that are indicated that could be better. Another survey will be sent later in the year to see if there is improvement.

• One member has been a bit frustrated with his cart stall assignment. Shawn will look into the matter and make sure this member has a permanent stall space.

• The board has authorized Shawn to post signs reminding the membership that there can only be four persons on each hole during the weekends. The board will support the superintendent with the enforcement of this policy.

• The clubhouse hours are 10am to 6pm. Shawn will make arrangements to open the clubhouse earlier on Tuesday mornings for the ladies’ league. There are several people who will be staffing the clubhouse. Each staffer will be educated and reminded that only persons 19 or older can sell alcoholic beverages.

• The next regular meeting will be July 23, 2008, at 8pm at the Grant Golf Course.

• The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 pm.

The regular meeting of the Grant Golf Board began at 8:35 pm at the home of Jorje Geisert. Present were board members Jim Kemling, Tim Meyer, Ryan Richmond, Kevin Poppe, Jorje Geisert, and Jarod Burge and Course Superintendent Shawn Stutzman.

Business Conducted:

• The meeting was called to order by President Kevin Poppe. The minutes of the previous meeting were read.

• The financial report was presented by Jim, who has accepted the position of Treasurer for the year.

Ryan was elected to this position, but due to professional advancement, he was unable to fulfill the duties. By a vote via e-mail of the board earlier in the month, Jim was elected.

Comments/ Discussion:

The prepaid golf stall program will expire in 2012. Leonard Schmitt, who passed away earlier this year was a participant in this program. Jim will contact Leonard’s son, David, and ask him if he wants to leave the money ($200) with the club, or if the family has a use for the stall.

At this time, $900 has been donated for the cart path concrete for #8.

Shawn has requested a list of those who have Driving Range Yearly Passes. He will monitor the use by families. The board might consider a different fee schedule for next season that would have a higher rate for families.

The pond construction is within budget at this time.

Tim Meyer, in conjunction with Deaver Computer, has donated a computer for the club house to use for handicapping, tournaments, and league play. It should be up and running this week. Kevin will inquire the rate for internet access. We would then be able to post scores and other information on the web site of http://grantgolfclub.blogspot.com.

• The superintendent report was given by Shawn, and included:

All rough has been mowed
Weeds will be sprayed 5/15/08, weather permitting.
Tee boxes are being mowed consistently

• The Men’s League Director, Jarod Burge, announced that the field was full with 22 teams. This is the maximum number that can be handled in a timely manner on Thursday evening. Because the field is full, the team of high school boys who inquired about playing will not be able to enter this year. Jarod will post a list of possible substitutes on the website.

• Tournament Director, Tim Meyer announced that the Par 3 was a success, even though the weather was less than perfect. He would recommend moving the date up a week next year. There are two tournaments in the next three weeks.

• The Chamber After Five will be held at the Grant Golf Course Clubhouse this Friday. This event will be sponsored by the Grant Golf Club, Shawn Stutzman, and Great Plains Communications. Shawn and his staff will be serving hot dogs and the coolers will stocked with complimentary beverages. There will be putting and chipping contests and other activities, and the board members will be on hand to take guests around the course to see the many new improvements. Expenses will be shared by the sponsors.

• A preliminary time line was formed for the funding and construction of a new clubhouse. The board members will measure the property this week to define the dimensions, and then each member can do research to come up with potential design ideas. These will be presented at the June board meeting. Final design plans will be submitted by the July meeting and cost projections and possible bids will be due by August 1st. Construction will begin on September 1st, with work progressing through the winter. The new clubhouse would be available to the membership by April 1, 2009.

• There has been a request to rent the clubhouse for a private party. The board authorized Shawn to use his discretion as to rental price and availability.

• Jarod made a motion and Tim seconded the motion to purchase 1000 yellow range balls. Motion carried.

• Shawn will continue to work on the scorecards.

• Jorje requested that the interior of lean-to side of the clubhouse be painted to match the painting (white) that was done to the rest of the clubhouse last year. Connie will be asked if she would do this.

• An estimate of the cost of steel roofing for the east side of the clubhouse will be sought. Board members will measure the portion of the roof in need of covering, and ask Petty and Adam’s for a price. After this information is available, the board will decide what options to pursue.

• Adjournment: with no further business, the board adjourned at 10:30 pm.

Handicaps are also posted on the schedule for Week 6 - June 19. Results and schedules are also posted on the Men's League board in the clubhouse. Handicaps for the next week's match-ups will be posted on the board and we will also attempt to get them on the scorecards to be picked up in the clubhouse.

Remember, if your team is unable to play on the scheduled night, you have until the following Wednesday to make it up or be assigned a loss for that week.

Handicaps for the first three weeks have been calculated so scores may have changed from the first week. Those scores are also used for the handicaps in Week 4 and handicaps will be on a rolling three week timeframe for the rest of the season.

On the Men's League page, please note that the points are at the top of the first page, the scores shot are below the points and the handicaps are at the bottom. In the bottom, left-hand corner there are three tabs. You start on the "Scores" tab but if you click on the "Weeks" tab you can see results of matches for each week. Also, if you click on the "Teams" tab, you can see all matches for each team for the year.

Please note: There was a late addition to the league. Thus, the schedule was changed as well as a few team numbers. The Week 1 pairings remained the same.

As there is now an odd number of teams, every week there will be one team that isn't necessarily "paired" with another team to play against although their scores we be compared for awarding points. The team highlighted in yellow each week is the duplicate team for scoring purposes. The team "paired" against the highlighted team may play alone or with another group.

Also, please note that the handicaps won't be calculated until after Week 3 (5/29) so scoring for the first two weeks may change at that time.

The board gathered at 7 PM at BenchWarmers on March 24^th. Those present were:

Jim said that Midwest is now billing the club house on a monthly basis and he will put that on an ACH from the bank. Everyone agreed with this decision.

The annual meeting agenda for March 29^th was discussed. An unofficial agenda had been put together by Gloria and Jorje. There were a few items added to it. Gloria had gone through the minutes of the past year and noted highlights to be reported on.

Gloria reported that the committee decided to give the following door prizes and grand prizes at the annual meeting.

Grand Prizes: $100 off a membership fee for 2008

$100 Driving Range Pass

Door Prizes: 4 – ½ hour lessons given by Shawn Stutzman

4 - free passes for 9 holes of golf

4 - $15 of driving range tokens (6)

The group gave their approval of these prizes.

Bench Warmers asked for a guaranteed number of attendees, it was decided to guarantee 30.

John will ask Valley Bank and Adams Lumber to put the meeting notice on their marquees. Gloria will contact Adams Bank about it. Jorje will make some posters to put on Bench Warmer windows.

Rules regarding the new water hazards were discussed. Shawn will work on this. If new score cards are printed, this will be put on them.

Discussion on an incentive for bringing in new members was held. No decision was made.

The water issue with REX Pipeline was brought up. Kevin is going to follow up on this.

A new club house was again discussed. Some feel that putting money into the present club house is money down the drain. Shawn had some ideas on a frame building. It was decided that there was not enough time before the annual meeting to gather enough information to present to the membership. There is $3,228.12 in the building fund. There is an offer of $5,000 if a new club house is constructed. There is $4,500 budgeted for 08 for work on the present club house. That would give us $12,700 towards new construction. Adams Lumber will be contacted for a price and Shawn will do some checking on his source.

Since the Nebraska Men were playing basketball on TV, the meeting dispensed without any regular business being done.

WELCOME

Welcome to the Grant Golf Club Newsletter of ’08. We are bringing to you information about your Grant Golf Club, including the hiring of a new Superintendent, activity schedules, volunteer opportunities, membership schedules, etc.

NEW FACE IN CHARGE

The board of directors is pleased to announce the hiring of Shawn Stutzman of Venango as the new Course Superintendent. It was with regret that the board accepted Troy Kemling’s notice of resignation in December. However, they are excited to have such a capable young man to fill his position. Shawn comes to us with multiple experiences

ANNUAL MEETING / SPRING FLING

March 29th is the date to attend the annual meeting and Spring Fling of the Grant Golf Club. The Board decided to try a new approach to try to get more people to attend the annual meeting. So please come to Bench Warmers on the 29th. Starting at 4:30PM, there will be free hors d’oeuvre’s, soft drinks and a social time. A power point presentation will be running for you to see what has been happening at the course, along with some future plans. The annual meeting will take place at 5PM. You are welcome to stay and socialize following the meeting. We hope to see many of you at this function. Help us make our year exciting at the Grant Golf Club.

IMPROVEMENTS

The Club was fortunate in 2007 to have the opportunity to get a little extra money. When the REX Pipeline went north of the course property, they were in need of some water to test their pipeline. The club was approached with several different options. When it finally got time to actually have it happen, they told us they needed to have a pit dug so they could store the water to be pumped into their pipeline. They gave the club $15,000 to do this. The pit was dug, but then REX decided they wanted to pump directly from the wells into their pipeline. In the end REX pumped approximately 6 million gallons of water from the Grant Golf Club. The club is receiving $3 per 1000 gallons. This money is being used to make various improvements around the course. The big one that you will notice is the water hazard on #8 where the original pit was dug. There will be additional landscaping done here to make it an attractive and viable water hazard. Also some of the dirt from this dig is being moved to the #3 fairway around the green. This is to make the area around the approach wider. It is hope this will make the two holes more attractive.

Additional items of improvement that you could see because of these dollars are: 1) The pump fund has been funded to the $5,000 that the club is required to furnish if the pump should need work or replaced. 2) The Club house roof may receive the additional metal roofing that is lacking. There is talk to improve the deck around the club house and put a shade over it. 3) Purchasing of a utility vehicle for the club is being checked on. 4) Several smaller items are also being addressed.

MEMBERSHIP / CART STORAGE

The board feels that it is important to keep the membership fee structure updated on a regular pace, so are recommending the following dues structure for 2008.

**A student membership is required from 11 years through high school if not a part of a family membership. College students may purchase a 3 month membership for $100.

LEASE A CART

You may lease a cart from the club for $300 a year. This allows you to use a cart anytime you choose. The cart is for your use only, not for the lessee to loan to his friends or family. The cart is also used as a rental cart during the year, as the club needs it. There is a form available explaining how this program works. Please visit with Shawn if interested. We had a few use this program last year and really like it. If you have any interest, let Shawn know soon, as the number of rental carts the club needs is determined by this use.

DRIVING RANGE

The driving range has been a good addition to the course. You may purchase a bucket of balls for $3 when the club house is open (or purchase 6 tokens for $15). Also a season pass is available for $100.

HANDICAP SYSTEM

The use of the handicap system is strongly recommended. There is a computer in the club house where you can record your scores in order to obtain your handicap. The fee for the handicap system is $20 per year and is tied in with the state handicapping system. The tournament committee plans to use handicaps in the club tournaments, so it is important for you to join the handicap program.

BOARD MEMBERS RETIRING

John Long, after one term, and Gloria Patrick, after two terms, are stepping down from the Board of Directors. They have both spent many hours helping the club get to where it is today.

Jorje Geisert and Ryan Richmond have accepted the nomination to have their names put on the ballot for directors. Names will be accepted from the floor. Your support is needed for the board to perform to its highest expectations.

SIGNING IN

Please sign the book each time you go to the golf course. The reason for this is that the better ratio there is of paying membership golfers vs. green fees paying golfers, the less tax burden there is for the club. Please help the club save money by simply signing your name.

LEAGUE PLAY / TOURNAMENTS

The board would love to have you play in our tournaments this year. We are trying to have a variety of tournaments featuring a diversity of formats. All skill levels are welcome at all tournaments. Flighted tournaments give everyone a chance to win, and they are great fun! We are looking, (but not confirmed) to adding a couple tournaments including the possibility of a member/guest tournament and a Ryder cup style border tournament with Holyoke. We have a few tournaments that will take a couple of hours, and a few that will take two days. Some tournaments will require handicaps, so start entering you scores now!

GOLF CLUB PRIDE

We all need to have pride in our golf club, so please clean you cart stall. Get rid of any items that you do not use at the course. The stalls are not a storage stall for unused equipment. The center aisle will be swept if you clean your own area. When you are out on the course and see trash, please pick it up and dispose of it properly. Picking up broken tree branches is also appreciated. Thanks.

REPORTS:

FINANCIALS: Jim gave the financial report. No money has yet been received for the water which the REX pipeline was purchasing. Kevin will follow up on this again. He suggested that we get this money in hand and then follow up with an expense voucher for pipe rental, damage, labor, etc. Noted items in the report were that Bob Cummings still owes some on his 07 dues, Jim has sent several notices. Idonna Deaver’s membership for 08 has been paid, but she needs to pay for cart storage.

Gloria moved and Kevin seconded to accept the financial report. Motion carried.

SUPERINTENDENT: Troy gave the attached report. He highlighted the items that he thought needed to be addressed in the budget. (See attached report.) Troy reported that he is willing to step aside the 15^th of March for the new superintendent to take over.

Thanks Troy for an outstanding job at the Grant Golf Club for the past four years. You have brought the golf course to a new level and we appreciate all that you have done.

OTHER BUSINESS:

The present scorecards have been in use for two year and that was the length of time that the advertising was solicited for. New ones should be made with new advertising solicited. No action was taken as to who was taking charge of this.

The Annual Meeting/Spring Fling was discussed. Jorge Geisert, Connie Styskal and Gloria Patrick are the organizing committee. March 29^th was set for the date. It will be held at Bench Warmers. The suggested format was:

4 PM: Social hour with appetizers, soft drinks or punch. Alcoholic beverages

may be purchased by the individuals.

4:30 PM: Business Meeting

a. Elect board members

b. Accept the budget

c. Approve membership rates

d. Power Point presentation: Kevin and Tim (This may be used during the whole evening, rather than just at the meeting.)

The committee will work on arranging some door prizes. We will work to get more people to attend and have a fun evening of fellowship. There will be an add put in the paper and a newsletter will be sent out as the form of a notice.

The interview committee brought the recommendation to hire Shawn Stutzman as the new Superintendent: John moved and Gloria seconded to accept this recommendation. Motion carried.

Shawn will be start employment March 1, 2008 and his contract will run for 1 year. The same contract that was used for Troy will be implemented. His salary will be $46,000 per year including all the duties at the course and the club house. He will be responsible for hiring his own help.

This contract will overlap 2 weeks with Troy’s. The board felt that doing this would help with the transition. Troy is willing to help in any way that he can to make it go smoothly.

Shawn will be getting his Commercial Chemical license which will cost about $140. Tim moved and Kevin seconded that the club pay for this license. Motion carried.

A newsletter will be put together to be mailed to the membership in March. Some of the items to be in it are: Annual Meeting notice, anticipated dues rate increase, explain the cart lease program, tournament participation encouragement. Gloria volunteered to put this together, but solicited any items to include in it.

Kevin will be working on a blog or web page for the golf course. We will be able to post items to it after he has it built.

Upcoming tournaments were discussed. Tim is working on a Borders Tournament with Holyoke and Grant. John suggested doing an Alumni tournament on June 15^th when alums are in Grant for class reunions. He suggested a 2 or 3 person par 3 tournament.

Being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.

Before the meeting was called to order, John indicated that he had some inquires about selling of the Golf Club. He had talked to the City of Grant for some input as the possibility of this happening. They indicated they would be willing to talk about it. Only discussion was held at this time.

At 7:15 PM, President John Long called the meeting to order. No minutes were read or approved.

Discussion of how to handle the applications for the position of superintendent was held. Following discussion, Kevin Poppe, Jim Kemling and Tim Meyer volunteered to serve as the interview committee and will bring recommendations back to the board at a later meeting. There was discussion on how to offer the job: 1) Superintendent and club house manager or 2) Superintendent and club house manager as separate jobs.

Jim gave the financial report. There has been no money received for the water purchased by REX Pipeline. Gloria indicated that she thought it was in the process of being paid. The board feels that REX owes for labor, pipe rental and pipe repairs that were incurred to get the water for them. Tim moved and Gloria seconded that Jim and Troy submit and written invoice covering these costs. Motion carried.

Gloria mentioned that Star and Jim put in many hours doing the books for the club and felt that they should be compensated for this. John moved and Tim seconded to give them their ‘08 club membership in compensation for this. Motion carried.

Budget planning was done. The following tables indicate the recommended rates for 2008.

Jim moved and Jerod seconded that we bring the pump fund of $791.32 up to a $5000 amount and take out a CD for 1 year. Motion carried. Jim will research the amounts. This will be funded with one of the CD’s that is coming due. Jim will reinvest the money that is available.

Discussion of an annual meeting was held. Since we do not get a good turn out for a meeting it was suggested that we try a spring social to accompany the annual meeting. Jorje Geisert volunteered to head up this committee. She will ask Connie Styskal and Gloria Patrick to help her.

A special meeting will be called when the interview committee has a recommendation to make regarding the hiring of a Superintendent.
